The new center was made possible thanks to
a generous gift from the H.N. and Frances C.
Berger Foundation.
“We strongly support Methodist Hospital’s mis-
sion of compassionate care,” says Chris McGuire,
vice president of programs and director of the
foundation. “This new center will provide the fin-
est care for patients long into the future.”
During the dedication, McGuire surprised the
hospital with a major gift for the purchase of a
160-slice CT scanner. These generous gifts from
the Berger Foundation will better enable Meth-
odist Hospital to continue to provide patients
with “The Next Generation of Care.”
New hyperbaric oxygen chamber
provides care for patients
A NEW
hyperbaric treatment center has been
established in the wound care center at
Methodist Hospital. Officially dedicated on
Feb. 16, the state-of-the-art H.N. and Frances
C. Berger Foundation Hyperbaric Oxygen
Center can reduce morbidity and save lives by
treating patients with serious medical conditions
in a high-tech hyperbaric (high-pressure oxygen)
chamber.
The center will allow doctors to treat the grow-
ing number of patients with diabetes, as well
as those with wounds resulting from immune
deficiencies. This advanced technology will also
benefit patients with decompression sickness
(the bends) caused by diving accidents and
those who have ulcers, carbon monoxide poison-
ing, crush injuries, air or gas embolisms, bone
infections, and even flesh-eating bacteria.
Patients can sit upright or comfortably recline
while listening to music or watching a favorite
movie during treatment inside the chamber.
