Diabetes? Take care of your feet
WITH
diabetes, nerve damage and poor circulation can cause seri-
ous foot problems. These tips can help you take care of your feet:
»
»
Wash your feet every day in warm—not hot—water. Dry them well.
»
»
Use a thin coat of lotion on your feet—but not between your toes.
That could cause an infection.
»
»
Check your feet every day for cuts, blisters, sores, redness or other
problems. If healing doesn’t begin in one day, call your doctor.
»
»
Trim toenails straight across—don’t cut the corners back.
»
»
Always wear shoes and socks, even indoors.
»
»
Check inside your
shoes for rough spots
or objects that could
damage your foot.
»
»
Have your doctor check
your feet at every
diabetes checkup.
